Setanta is a mixed voice choir based in Dundalk, Ireland. It was formed in 1978 and has since grown to a current membership of over 60.

From a small initial gathering the choir has flourished and is widely recognised as an important contributor to the musical and cultural life of this area. The choir has sung in many major venues at home and abroad, including the National Concert Hall, Dublin, and the Waterfront in Belfast.

At the heart of the choir is an abiding love for performance. Setanta just love to perform and the ethos of the choir is to entertain and have fun whilst doing it.

Setanta is a non-profit organisation and much of the money raised on public performances and events goes to benefit many charities both local and abroad.

In its Silver Jubilee year, Setanta Choir commissioned Dr. Eibhlis Farrell a local composer to compose a work for soprano, choir and orchestra based on the famous Táin legend from which the choir took its name. The Táin was performed to great acclaim in Dundalk Institute of Technology with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, conducted by Proinnsías Ó Duinn in the presence of President Mary McAleese. Read more >>>

Now in its 30th year, Setanta has a busy programme planned, the finale of the year being a performance of Haydn's Creation, once again with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Scientific research has shown that singing, and choral singing in particular brings major benefits to mind and body. As one choir member says 'I come to choir and for those hours my worries are forgotten.'
